# ElementHandle.type() method
Focuses the element, and then sends a `keydown`, `keypress`/`input`, and `keyup` event for each character in the text.
To press a special key, like `Control` or `ArrowDown`, use [ElementHandle.press()](./puppeteer.elementhandle.press.md).
